Visions of Grandeur
Daily Prayer
Father God, help me to be patient with those around me. You have given me grace, and your word tells me to be like you. I cannot do it without your love and the Holy Spirit's help, Father; help me forgive those who have done wrong, and give me the grace you give me. I pray this in Jesus' name.
Ezekiel 41:1-42:20 - WEB-OFFLINEBibleGateway ↗
1. He brought me to the temple, and measured the posts, six cubits wide on the one side, and six cubits wide on the other side, which was the width of the tent. 2. The width of the entrance was ten cubits; and the sides of the entrance were five cubits on the one side, and five cubits on the other side. He measured its length, forty cubits, and the width, twenty cubits. 3. Then he went inward and measured each post of the entrance, two cubits; and the entrance, six cubits; and the width of the entrance, seven cubits. 4. He measured its length, twenty cubits, and the width, twenty cubits, before the temple. He said to me, “This is the most holy place.” 5. Then he measured the wall of the house, six cubits; and the width of every side room, four cubits, all around the house on every side. 6. The side rooms were in three stories, one over another, and thirty in order. They entered into the wall which belonged to the house for the side rooms all around, that they might be supported, and not penetrate the wall of the house. 7. The side rooms were wider on the higher levels, because the walls were narrower at the higher levels. Therefore the width of the house increased upward; and so one went up from the lowest level to the highest through the middle level. 8. I saw also that the house had a raised base all around. The foundations of the side rooms were a full reed of six great cubits. 9. The thickness of the wall, which was for the side rooms, on the outside, was five cubits. That which was left was the place of the side rooms that belonged to the house. 10. Between the rooms was a width of twenty cubits around the house on every side. 11. The doors of the side rooms were toward an open area that was left, one door toward the north, and another door toward the south. The width of the open area was five cubits all around. 12. The building that was before the separate place at the side toward the west was seventy cubits wide; and the wall of the building was five cubits thick all around, and its length ninety cubits. 13. So he measured the house, one hundred cubits long; and the separate place, and the building, with its walls, one hundred cubits long; 14. also the width of the face of the house, and of the separate place toward the east, one hundred cubits. 15. He measured the length of the building before the separate place which was at its back, and its galleries on the one side and on the other side, one hundred cubits from the inner temple, and the porches of the court 16. the thresholds, and the closed windows, and the galleries around on their three stories, opposite the threshold, with wood ceilings all around, and from the ground up to the windows, (now the windows were covered), 17. to the space above the door, even to the inner house, and outside, and by all the wall all around inside and outside, by measure. 18. It was made with cherubim and palm trees. A palm tree was between cherub and cherub, and every cherub had two faces; 19. so that there was the face of a man toward the palm tree on the one side, and the face of a young lion toward the palm tree on the other side. It was made like this through all the house all around. 20. Cherubim and palm trees were made from the ground to above the door. The wall of the temple was like this. 21. As for the temple, the door posts were squared. As for the face of the sanctuary, its appearance was as the appearance of the temple. 22. The altar was of wood, three cubits high, and its length two cubits. Its corners, its length, and its walls were of wood. He said to me, “This is the table that is before Yahweh.” 23. The temple and the sanctuary had two doors. 24. The doors had two leaves each, two turning leaves: two for the one door, and two leaves for the other. 25. There were made on them, on the doors of the temple, cherubim and palm trees, like those made on the walls. There was a threshold of wood on the face of the porch outside. 26. There were closed windows and palm trees on the one side and on the other side, on the sides of the porch. This is how the side rooms of the house and the thresholds were arranged.
42
1. Then he brought me out into the outer court, the way toward the north. Then he brought me into the room that was opposite the separate place, and which was opposite the building toward the north. 2. Before the length of one hundred cubits was the north door, and the width was fifty cubits. 3. Opposite the twenty cubits which belonged to the inner court, and opposite the pavement which belonged to the outer court, was gallery against gallery in the third floor. 4. Before the rooms was a walk of ten cubits’ width inward, a way of one cubit; and their doors were toward the north. 5. Now the upper rooms were shorter; for the galleries took away from these, more than from the lower and the middle, in the building. 6. For they were in three stories, and they didn’t have pillars as the pillars of the courts. Therefore the uppermost was set back more than the lowest and the middle from the ground. 7. The wall that was outside by the side of the rooms, toward the outer court before the rooms, its length was fifty cubits. 8. For the length of the rooms that were in the outer court was fifty cubits. Behold, before the temple were one hundred cubits. 9. From under these rooms was the entry on the east side, as one goes into them from the outer court. 10. In the thickness of the wall of the court toward the east, before the separate place, and before the building, there were rooms. 11. The way before them was like the appearance of the rooms which were toward the north; according to their length so was their width: and all their exits were both according to their fashions, and according to their doors. 12. According to the doors of the rooms that were toward the south was a door at the head of the way, even the way directly before the wall toward the east, as one enters into them. 13. Then he said to me, “The north rooms and the south rooms, which are before the separate place, are the holy rooms, where the priests who are near to Yahweh shall eat the most holy things. There they shall lay the most holy things, with the meal offering, the sin offering, and the trespass offering; for the place is holy. 14. When the priests enter in, then they shall not go out of the holy place into the outer court, but they shall lay their garments in which they minister there; for they are holy. Then they shall put on other garments, and shall approach that which is for the people.” 15. Now when he had finished measuring the inner house, he brought me out by the way of the gate which faces toward the east, and measured it all around. 16. He measured on the east side with the measuring reed five hundred reeds, with the measuring reed all around. 17. He measured on the north side five hundred reeds with the measuring reed all around. 18. He measured on the south side five hundred reeds with the measuring reed. 19. He turned about to the west side, and measured five hundred reeds with the measuring reed. 20. He measured it on the four sides. It had a wall around it, the length five hundred, and the width five hundred, to make a separation between that which was holy and that which was common.
> Ezekiel Ezekiel 41
And on all the walls all around, inside and outside, was a measured pattern (Eze 41:17)
God gives Ezekiel the images of the temple, in the scriptures the temple from what I have learnt so far is the picture of God’s desired relationship with His people, a place of order and closeness. How beautiful we can see how Jesus changed that reality and brought the Father even closer to us, we should still be in awe of His presence and His love, that for me is the order, but the case that we can bring our cares, and as the bible says “cast your cares, on Him for He cares for you”, brings a personal dimension to the reality that God wants and desires a relationship with us, with me, with you.
There they shall put the most holy offerings—the grain offering, the sin offering, and the guilt offering—for the place is holy. (Eze 42:13)
God is worthy of praise, and He makes sure that there is space for His worship, this is not because He needs it, but our benefit, that we can align our bent hearts to Him, so that we can receive His goodness. This is not a bad thing to offer gifts to God, but a way that He created to help us draw closer to Him.
Revelation 20:7-21:8 - WEB-OFFLINEBibleGateway ↗
7. And after the thousand years, Satan will be released from his prison, 8. and he will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to the war; the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 9. They went up over the width of the earth, and surrounded the camp of the saints, and the beloved city. Fire came down out of heaven from God and devoured them. 10. The devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet are also. They will be tormented day and night forever and ever. 11. I saw a great white throne, and him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. There was found no place for them. 12. I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and they opened books. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13. The sea gave up the dead who were in it. Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them. They were judged, each one according to his works. 14. Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15. If anyone was not found written in the book of life, he was cast into the lake of fire.
21
1. I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth have passed away, and the sea is no more. 2. I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband. 3. I heard a loud voice out of heaven saying, “Behold, God’s dwelling is with people, and he will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away.” 5. He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” He said, “Write, for these words of God are faithful and true.” 6. He said to me, “I have become the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give freely to him who is thirsty from the spring of the water of life. 7. He who overcomes, I will give him these things. I will be his God, and he will be my son. 8. But for the cowardly, unbelieving, sinners, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their part is in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
> Revelation Revelation 20
And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison
8and will come out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea. (Re 20:7-8)
To be clear, only a prison and powerless person can be released, Satan is defeated, and Jesus is the King of kings. We are children of the King, and we are to believe this and seek His face, then we have the authority to resist the Devil, and reject the lies that he sends to us.
Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. (Re 20:12)
Maybe this is where the idea of works based salvation comes from, lets dig a little deeper here. The key term is erga (works/deeds), which appears repeatedly in judgment passages like Revelation 2:23 and 20:121.
Here’s the crucial distinction: Erga refers to outward accomplishments that reflect inner motives—deeds with public evidence—rather than mere internal dispositions. These visible actions flow from a person’s deeper character and serve as the basis for divine judgment2. This is fundamentally different from the works in “works-based salvation” debates, which typically refer to human effort attempting to earn favor.
The Greek phrase “kata ta erga autōn” (according to their works)3 appears throughout Scripture’s judgment passages. The principle “I will give to each one according to your works” (dōsō hymin hekastǭ kata ta erga hymōn) functions as Christ’s own judgment standard, stated multiple times across Revelation2. But notice: this measures what you actually did, not how hard you tried.
The distinction matters theologically. In Revelation’s vision, the final verdict examines both the books recording works and the Lamb’s book of life together—not as separate judgments of rewards versus eternal life3. Paul addresses Christians specifically when stating that actual obedience—not merely intended obedience—is essential to final salvation3. This reflects a different framework: your works reveal whether you’ve genuinely responded to Christ’s lordship, not whether you’ve accumulated enough merit points.

And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. (Re 20:13)
From what I have learnt the sea has been a picture of chaos, so if that perspective is used then from the chaos the dead was given up, is this the people that died before Jesus was born? I am not sure. That will be a interesting thing to dig deeper into.
And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire (Re 20:15)
When I read this it seems clear that not everyone will receive the gift of heaven and it seems very clear that not everyone accepted Christ.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people,2 and God himself will be with them as their God (Re 21:3)
Such a wonderful picture, God with man, He will dwell with them, a unified and personal relationship with no boundaries - dwell.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Re 21:4)
The picture of how it will be with God, no pain and no mourning.
Job 38:34-41 - WEB-OFFLINEBibleGateway ↗
34. “Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, That abundance of waters may cover you? 35. Can you send out lightnings, that they may go? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are?’ 36. Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the mind? 37. Who can count the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the containers of the sky, 38. when the dust runs into a mass, and the clods of earth stick together? 39. “Can you hunt the prey for the lioness, or satisfy the appetite of the young lions, 40. when they crouch in their dens, and lie in wait in the thicket? 41. Who provides for the raven his prey, when his young ones cry to God, and wander for lack of food?
> Job Job 38
Who can number the clouds by wisdom? Or who can tilt the waterskins of the heavens (Job 38:37)
The perspective of where we are in the perspective with God, we need to stand in the awe of God.
Today’s question
How do Ezekiel’s and John’s visions of the future give you hope? How should your relationship with God change in light of this?
